There is no doubt that Gordon has endured plenty of adversity over the last two NBA seasons. However, Hayward’s resilience and determination to rehab and get back to playing at the highest possible level showed this past season in Boston.

The beginning of the season was tough, as Gordon tried to re-acclimate to the NBA game. But, as the season progressed, Gordon posted impressive numbers in the 2018-2019 campaign and some of the best of his career so far:

  1. 38.5% of points in the paint

In Hayward’s eight complete seasons, this season saw the most success in the paint. In his sophomore season, 36.8 percent of his points came in the paint. This season, we saw Hayward moving around on the floor a ton more. It only makes sense that G was finding ways to maximize his value while on the court, and using his body to get inside proved to be effective for the Celtics this year.

  1. 2.32 assist/turnover ratio

For every turnover Hayward gave up, he averaged over two assists this season. This is by far the best of his career. In his sophomore season, he boasted a 1.90 assist-per-turnover ratio. On the road, Hayward was even better this year, where he averaged 3.0 assists per turnover.

  1. 83.4% free throw shooting

This season was Gordon’s second-best year from the free throw line, only short of his final year in Utah where he shot 84.4%. Hayward shot 156-for-187 from the free throw line. Throughout the season, G-Time was one of the Celtics’ most reliable free throw shooters, and as the season progressed, Gordon earned an increasing amount of opportunities from the charity stripe. The team would often put the ball in his hands at the end of games when the team was winning to send him to the line to pick up more points and put the games on ice.

  1. 109.8 offensive rating

G-Time made the most of his possessions on offense in the 2018-2019 season. This number comes second to his 2016-2017 season in Utah. Gordon was an extremely reliable and efficient offensive weapon for Boston this year, and he often provided a huge spark off the bench with the second unit.

  1. 63.8% (true shooting percentage) after the All-Star break

Over the course of a full NBA season, Hayward’s true shooting percentage would’ve ranked sixth in the entire NBA. For reference, G’s true shooting percentage after All-Star Weekend was only .001 behind Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry.

  1. 1.5 turnovers-per-game

Hayward was one of the most trustworthy ball handlers on the Cs. Gordon recorded his lowest turnover ratio per game since his rookie season (1.0). Hayward only turned the ball over 25 times after the All-Star break.

  1. 28% of points were 3-pointers

Of Gordon’s eight full-seasons, this season, he earned the second-highest percentage of his baskets from downtown. During the 2012-2013 season, 30.1 percent of his baskets fell from three-point range. G-Time made 77 3-pointers this season, with 58 of them coming in wins.

  1. 18.9% of Boston’s rebounds

Gordon was a beast on the boards this season. Hayward posed the second-best rebound numbers of his career and best since 2010-2011 when he entered the league as a rookie. On the offensive end, G-Time accounted for 13.1 percent of the Cs rebounds this season. Back in his rookie season, he grabbed 14.6 percent of Utah’s offensive boards. Then, coming back on defense, G was responsible for an impressive 20.6 percent of the Boston’s rebounds. Only his rookie season saw more action off the defensive glass (25 percent). Overall, Haywards 18.9 percent rebound rate almost tied his career high.

  1. 52.7% (effective field goal percentage)

Hayward’s effective field goal percentage of 52.7 percent this season is 2.4 percent better than his career average. This statistic adjusts for the fact that a 3-point field goal is worth one more point than a 2-point field goal. For example, suppose Player A goes 4 for 10 with 2 threes, while Player B goes 5 for 10 with 0 threes. Each player would have 10 points from field goals, and thus would have the same effective field goal percentage (50%), according to basketball reference.
