Wednesday marked another exhibition for Gordon Hayward and Team USA, and another international domination for the American squad.

Team USA outclassed the Dominican Republic in a 105-62 rout on Wednesday evening at Madison Square Garden, and Gordon chipped in four points off 2-of-3 shooting, along with two steals, a rebound and an assist in the victory.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski was thrilled with the way his team played at MSG, where each American player made the scoring column, leaving a difficult decision in the days ahead with time ticking down until the squad departs the country Saturday for the FIBA World Cup in Spain.

“(I’m) really, really pleased,” Krzyzewski said. “Obviously we were more talented and we should win, but the manner in which we played was with great intensity and unselfishness…This has been a great group of guys. When we do eventually make decisions on the 12, it will be very, very difficult.”

Coach K and USA Basketball president Jerry Colangelo will have to whittle down the 16-man roster to just 12 players for the tournament in Spain, making versatility a key factor.

Krzyzewski likes G-Time in that regard, particular since the unfortunate injury to Indiana Pacers swingman Paul George.

“Losing a guy who is an All-Star at 6-8 in Paul, and Gordon is 6-8, you have to look at it. … That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t have gone forward anyway, but you look him at him even closer,” Coach K said. “I love his versatility and the fact that he’s 6-8, and he’s strong. I think he’s more decisive, stronger and he’s a better player, and I think he will continue to grow.”

Another player who is projected to make the roster, Golden State’s Stephen Curry, likes Gordon’s dependability and tenacity on defense.

“He has that uncanny ability to be a pest on defense,” Curry said. “On the offensive end, he’s just in the right places and makes the right plays. There’s nothing flashy about his game. He executes every time he touches the ball. If he’s in Spain, he is going to be able to come in and play his role and be an instant impact. He’ll definitely help us.”

Gordon has been working hard with the talented Team USA roster in recent months in hopes of finding a spot on the squad. However, the Utah Jazz star has said that he doesn’t know how the roster will ultimately shake out.

“I don’t really know,” he said. “I think I’ve gone out and played well. I think I have a lot to offer with my versatility. But it’s kind of up to the (coaching staff). Internationally, I can play the 2, 3 and 4. I can defend multiple positions and do a lot for us. I think that is what I bring for the table.”

In the meantime, G-Time isn’t going to fret over whether or not he’ll be heading to Spain. Instead, he’ll take advantage of the opportunity to play alongside the world’s best players, improve his own game, and simply enjoy the overall experience of representing the USA.

“I’m still the same guy (I was) growing up in Brownsburg,” Gordon said. “Just a lot of exciting things have happened around me. I’m starting a new chapter of my life. Just trying to soak it all up and enjoy it. That’s what I do here. Enjoy this time and relish all the activities.”
